Overview
Devoted to Youth hosts the Rancho Peñasquitos Farmers Market weekly. The proceeds of the market go toward charities that support families and children, as well as food/donation drives. Devoted to Youth needs volunteers to run the market as smoothly as possible so that their small staff team can focus on making it a bigger weekly market. Volunteers are needed to help with setting up, breaking down, and running the event.
Responsibilities- Market Setup:
Assist with setting up the farmers market, including placing vendors in their assigned spaces using the vendor map and list provided by the organizers. - Kids’ Area Setup & Supervision:
Help set up the kids’ area, including activities and inflatables. Volunteers assigned to this area will oversee it during market hours to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for children and families. - Signage Placement:
Assist with placing directional and promotional signs before the market opens and collecting and storing them after the market closes. - Information Booth Support:
Staff the information booth by providing general information to customers and answering basic questions from potential vendors. - Cleanliness & Waste Management:
Help collect trash from designated trash cans throughout the market, separate waste for proper disposal, and ensure the overall market area remains clean and organized. - Market Breakdown:
Assist with breaking down the farmers market at the end of the day, including the kids’ area, information booth, vendor areas, and common spaces.
- No prior experience necessary
- Volunteers should be comfortable outdoors, friendly, and able to follow instructions
- Willingness to help in a team-oriented environment
- Food booth volunteers should be comfortable around food prep
- Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+;
Minimum Age: 18+
- On-site training provided at the beginning of the shift
- Attire:
Comfortable clothing and a jacket as it may get chilly. The opportunity takes place outdoors with plenty of shade. - Bring:
Water. Devoted to Youth will provide food and non-alcoholic drinks.
Volunteers may lift 40 lbs or more. Being able to lift up to 40 lbs is not required to participate. The project can accommodate individuals with physical limitations by providing seating and sedentary tasks (e.g., taking food orders, staffing the info booth, or supervising the kids area) to ensure children’s safety. The space is wheelchair accessible.
Waiver & WeatherVolunteers will be required to sign a waiver for Devoted to Youth when they arrive on site. This event takes place rain or shine and is only canceled in cases of especially inclement conditions.
