Department Description

Our world faces increasingly complex and urgent challenges that affect our collective environmental, social and economic well-being. Responding to these challenges in a holistic manner is the essence of sustainability, and the University of San Diego recognizes its responsibility to be a part of the response.

University Description

The University of San Diego, an engaged and contemporary Catholic institution, was founded by the Diocese of San Diego and the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1949. Governed by an independent board of trustees since 1972, USD remains committed to a liberal arts education grounded in the Catholic intellectual tradition and the pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty. Inspired by this centuries old tradition of Catholic higher education, the University welcomes people of all faith traditions and any, or no, religious background.

The future success of USD relies on the contributions of those who seek to foster the development of engaged global citizens and an earnest confrontation of humanity’s urgent challenges.

Detailed Description

Reporting to the Director of Sustainability, this role administers sustainability-focused projects and programs to educate USD’s campus community about how it can contribute to helping the university achieve its environmental and sustainability goals. The Coordinator leads and supervises a team of student workers who support the implementation of the office’s projects and programs, in addition to working with a variety of university departments to implement and administer employee-facing programs to further support the university’s environmental goals.

The Coordinator is also responsible for supporting the administrative and daily operations of the Office of Sustainability, such as maintaining the office’s budget, performing routine financial management, and managing communications. To build subject matter expertise and gain new skill sets in the fields of sustainability, climate, and the environment, the Coordinator will be encouraged to obtain professional certifications and participate in training programs in the fields of sustainability, environmental management, and climate change.
