Position: Budget for Baby Instructor

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is a private, non-profit,
volunteer
, service organization. As a Center of Excellence
, it is committed to ensuring that all available resources are used to assist personnel of the Naval Service--active, retired, and their eligible family members-
- to achieve financial self-sufficiency and find solutions to emergency needs., The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) San Diego is looking for a dedicated volunteer to present our Budget for Baby(r) (B4B) workshop to service members and their dependents seeking financial education in preparation for the arrival of a child. This is an in-person volunteer opportunity with the potential to host virtual workshops in the future.

B4B instructors provide detailed information on the various expenses associated with the addition of a child, along with recommendations and resources to help ease the financial strains of growing a family.

Responsibilities
  • Present NMCRS B4B workshop in a variety of settings (groups, one-on-one, or virtually)
  • Answer clients' questions and provide appropriate resources
  • Must be available to lead two in-person workshops per month (one weekday and one Saturday; approx. 3 hours per workshop, including travel to/from Naval Base San Diego)
Qualifications
  • Commit to the team for a minimum of 6 months
  • Complete NMCRS Orientation and Training
  • Basic computer skills
  • Be able to work collaboratively with a variety of personalities, including clients and fellow volunteers
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large groups
  • Experience teaching, knowledge of military pay system, and familiarity with Tricare (especially navigating pregnancy/childbirth/adoption) a plus, but not required
