Future Salary Increases- June 2026 – 4.77% increase to base pay (3.50% Across-the-Board + 1.27% Market Adjustment)
- June 2027 – 4.27% increase to base pay (3.00% Across-the-Board + 1.27% Market Adjustment)
The Coordinator, Volunteer and Public Services is allocated to the Department of Animal Services, Department of Parks and Recreation, Library, and the Registrar of Voters. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill an immediate vacancy in the Department of Animal Services and future vacancies in other departments.
The selected candidate for the Department of Animal Services may work evenings and/or weekends and will be expected to travel in order to promote and encourage volunteer engagement at each County animal shelters currently located in Bonita and Carlsbad. This position will be headquartered out of Bonita and will relocate to the new animal shelter in Santee, at the end of 2026.

The Coordinator, Volunteer and Public Services
, will foster a culture of inclusion and appreciation, inspire commitment to department goals and objectives, recruit and match volunteers to department needs, develop and implement policy and procedures, monitor and recommend improvements to volunteer programming and contribute to long-term strategic planning.
As the Coordinator, Volunteer and Public Services, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: articulating the organizational vision and encouraging volunteer involvement, training and coaching volunteers, tracking and analyzing service trends and designing or modifying volunteer opportunities, managing program changes by effectively communicating, collaborating with volunteers and staff and sharing innovative ideas with management, interacting daily to educate volunteers about animal behavior and husbandry, creating continuing education opportunities for the development of volunteer skills, developing a volunteer recognition plan and designing marketing strategies to attract interest in DAS as a destination for volunteer service.
