DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization, recognized as a ‘gold standard’ for nursing excellence. The Multi‑Specialty Clinic integrates specialists in medical, surgical, hematology‑oncology, and gynecologic oncology. We seek dynamic oncology clinic RNs with strong critical thinking, communication, care coordination, and patient advocacy skills. RNs may cross‑train and work with other oncology disease teams to ensure patient safety and continuity of care.

Additional opportunities include Unit‑Based Council membership to identify, develop, and implement performance‑improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and staff wellbeing.

Autonomous nursing care means assessing and providing nursing actions appropriate to patient populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance, exercising independent judgment within interdisciplinary multidisciplinary approaches to care.

While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
  • RN license issued by the State of California.
  • BART or BLS at time of hire, commitment to obtain BART within six (6) months of hire.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent RN experience in an outpatient or acute inpatient oncology setting.
  • Demonstrated multidisciplinary care coordination experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to collaborate with all staff, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with team members across multiple departments.
  • Excellent critical thinking, clinical, and patient teaching skills with vulnerable patient populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly prioritize and manage care in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Evidence of commitment to lifelong learning (e.g., professional certification, clinical ladder advancement).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSN or MSN.
  • Oncology Certification (OCN).
  • Two (2+) or more years of outpatient oncology experience.
  • Recent experience processing prior authorizations for specialty medications and durable medical equipment.
  • Experience with vulnerable patient populations.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
PAY AND COMPENSATION

Annual Full Pay Range: $190,342 – $190,342 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $91.16 – $91.16

MOLECULAR AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Life‑support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands‑on practice and in‑person skills assessment; online‑only certification is not acceptable.
