Description

UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization, a prestigious recognition held by 10% of U.S. hospitals. The 27-bed unit located at 3 East is an adult General Med/Surg unit (medical, surgical, urology, general surgery) that runs 12‑hour shifts with flexible scheduling. Autonomous nursing care is expected, consistent with ANA Standards of Practice. Independent judgment is exercised within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
  • RN License issued by the State of California.
  • BART or BLS at time of hire; must obtain BART within six (6) months of hire.
  • Minimum one (1) year of recent RN experience in acute Med/Surg or a Sub‑Acute environment.
  • Solid understanding of nursing‑sensitive indicators relevant to Med/Surg and integration of these measures into daily practice to promote quality and safety outcomes.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results for complex, evolving patient conditions within a Med/Surg setting.
  • Ability to handle unexpected challenges and create solutions with a patient‑centered approach.
  • Functions effectively in a fast‑paced environment; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; consistently demonstrates empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
  • Effective communication and influencing skills with all disciplines of staff, including technologists, physicians, advanced practice providers, and patients, both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BSN preferred.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $190,342 - $190,342 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $91.16 - $91.16
Factors include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

Compliance

Certifications

Life‑support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands‑on practice and in‑person skills assessment; online‑only certification is not acceptable.
