Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

Under the supervision of the attending faculty physician and the clinical nurse or NP lead, the RN is responsible for providing clinical assistance and support in treating and managing the pre and post-transplant care of transplant patients. Acts as a key member of the multidisciplinary transplant team. Solves complex clinical problems and communicates directly with the attending physician. Consultant and liaison for patients and their families with attending physicians, house staff, social workers, financial and administrative staff, and community physicians.

Provides teaching to patients, staff, and community organizations. Collaborate with attending physicians on admissions, discharges, urgent evaluations and patient education, primarily in the hospital setting. Works closely with the administrative team to fulfill QA and regulatory requirements.

• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• RN License issued by the State of California.
• BART or BLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six months of hire date.
• Experience of at least one (1) year within the past two (2) years, providing patient/family education.
• Direct bedside nursing experience of one (1) or more years on an inpatient unit where transplant unit where patients stay 72 hours or greater on a regular basis requiring day to day management of a transplant patient along the continuum of pre-or post-transplant care as a primary function of the role excluding procedural or short stay areas. (For internal UCSD candidates the minimum 1-year experience would need to be on CVICU- 3A and CVICU 2, 4AB or 3B)
  OR Outpatient Post Transplant solid organ coordinator experience of one (1) or more years in the direct care of post-transplant patients as a primary function of the role excluding areas where direct care of post-transplant…
