Under the full-time, on-site Medical Director for the Adult, Adolescent and Pediatric Programs, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will serve as a designated expert for assessing and interpreting complex psychiatric cases and providing specialized mental health care services in one of the leading eating disorders partial hospital and intensive outpatient programs in the country. The position is on-site within our in-person treatment center.
While primarily based in the Adult program (ages 18+), the incumbent must be prepared to treat patients aged 8–65+ for child and adolescent coverage as needed. The NP will evaluate and manage both eating disorders and a broad range of co‑morbid psychiatric disorders.
The NP will conduct in-depth interviews, construct comprehensive psychiatric and medical histories, perform targeted physical exams, develop and implement short‑ and long‑range treatment plans, provide ongoing psychiatric medication management, perform crisis intervention and counseling, coordinate care with multidisciplinary staff, and provide continuing education and training for staff. The NP will prepare clinical documentation, participate in regulatory compliance and quality assurance, and serve as a resource for clinic staff.
The NP will have autonomy over PHP/IOP psychiatric caseload and outpatient appointments, with on‑site physician support available.
- Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
- California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Federal L Certified Nurse.
- Current Psychiatric‑Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification (PMHNP).
- BART or BLS/CPR certification at time of hire, with commitment to obtain BART within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum six (6) months of recent (within the last 1–2 years) experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in an eating disorders partial hospitalization program or intensive outpatient program setting.
- Proven knowledge of psychiatric principles, practices, and processes gained through extended clinical study and experience; emphasis on interdisciplinary team approach.
- Knowledge of community agencies most frequently used in mental health care.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in managing psychiatric medications.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in providing crisis counseling to patients and families.
- Proven experience in providing education to patients and families on ongoing primary care, health maintenance, prevention, anticipatory guidance, and psychiatric disorder management.
