Job SummaryUC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization, recognized for nursing excellence in transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, and innovation. The Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center is the region's first academic‑based facility that combines all heart and vascular‑related services under one roof. The Registered Nurse provides direct care to critical‑care patients using the nursing process in the clinic setting, develops and implements treatment plans, promotes self‑care through education, and organizes and maintains clinic equipment and supplies.
These units serve a wide array of cardiology patients, including those undergoing cardiothoracic surgeries such as lung/heart transplants, coronary artery bypass grafting, valve replacement, and pulmonary thromboendarterectomy. The units utilize advanced training and skills to care for high‑acuity, complex patients. 24‑hour physician coverage is provided, and the nurse‑to‑patient ratio is 1:3 or 1:4.

Minimum Qualifications- Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
- RN license issued by the State of California.
- BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire and commitment to obtain ART within six months of hire.
- One year of recent acute‑care RN experience in Progressive Care or Telemetry.
- Demonstrated understanding and application of nursing‑sensitive indicators relevant to Progressive Care or Telemetry.
- Critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions for complex, evolving patient conditions in a PCU setting.
- Ability to handle unexpected challenges and create patient‑centered solutions.
- Function in a fast‑paced environment with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
- Effective communication and influence with all disciplines of staff, including technologists, physicians, advanced practice providers, and patients, both verbally and in writing.
- PCCN, CSC, and CMC certifications.
- IMU experience.
- Experience with cardiopulmonary and cardiac care.
- Work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call times, and locations based on the 24‑hour medical center’s business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
Annual full pay range: $138,330 – $193,892. Hourly equivalent: $66.25 – $92.86. The pay range may be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%. Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other organizational needs.
