UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization, a prestigious recognition awarded to only 10% of U.S. hospitals. The Motility nurse provides nursing care to outpatients and inpatients undergoing esophageal manometry, 24‑hour pH studies, and anorectal manometry. The RN works independently under the order of the attending gastroenterologist, identifies and implements nursing interventions, evaluates results, directs and supports the nursing and technical team, promotes compliance with policies, and participates in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
The nurse is expected to practice autonomously in accordance with ANA Standards of Practice, exercising independent judgment within an interdisciplinary team environment. Proficiency in washing probes as required is part of the role.
- Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
- Valid California RN license.
- Valid BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at hire with commitment to obtain UCSD ART within six months.
- Minimum one year of recent adult GI or procedural nursing experience.
- Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities.
- Ability to function in a fast‑paced environment with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, consistently demonstrating empathy and kindness.
- Demonstrated clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results.
- Excellent communication and influence skills with staff, physicians, patients, and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.
- BSN degree.
- GI Motility experience.
- Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call, and at multiple locations based on the 24‑hour Medical Center’s business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
- Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII or CNIV level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.
Annual Full Pay Range: $138,330 – $193,892 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $66.25 – $92.86.
