Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (MS RN) – VA Medical Center
Location: San Diego, CA
Job Type: Full Time Contract
Department: Nursing Services
Reports To: Nurse Manager / Charge Nurse
We are seeking skilled and dependable Medical-Surgical Registered Nurses (MS RNs) to provide high-quality patient care within the VA Medical Center in San Diego. This role involves caring for adult patients with a wide range of medical conditions, ensuring safe, effective treatment and recovery. The MS RN will collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver patient-centered care to the veteran population.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in a medical-surgical setting
- Monitor patient condition, including vital signs, symptoms, and response to treatment
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols
- Perform patient assessments and document findings accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning
- Collaborate with physicians, LVNs, CNAs, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care
- Respond to changes in patient condition and elevate care as needed
- Maintain infection control standards and ensure a safe patient environment
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers
- Uphold patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and VA regulations
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN)
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association preferred)
- At least 2-3 years of experience in a medical-surgical or acute care setting
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience in a hospital-based medical-surgical unit
- ACLS certification
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Experience working with diverse or veteran patient populations
- Clinical judgment and critical thinking
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Patient-centered care and advocacy
- Effective communication and teamwork
- Ability to manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment
- Professionalism and accountability
12-hour night shifts
