Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - PACU

Overview

Registered Nurse (RN) position to support the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Naval Medical Center San Diego, CA.

The salary range for this position is $44.11/hr. – $82/hr compensation will be determined based on skill set, years of experience, shift, and geographic location.

Responsibilities

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM for 8.5 to 11 hour shifts, including meal break. No holidays or weekends.

Job Specific Details and Tasks

  • Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of health care professionals.
  • Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality, and cost effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF.
  • Perform physical exam and health histories.
  • Provide health promotions, counseling, and education.
  • Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.
  • Accountable for making patient care assignments based on scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people to inform the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
  • Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.
  • Perform nursing services identified in the TO.
  • Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes.

Additional Duties

  • Discharge or release from post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) according to established criteria, providing follow-up evaluation and care related to anesthesia complications and/or side effects.
  • Check all resuscitative equipment prior to the beginning of the day; report any malfunctioning or missing equipment to Charge Nurse of the PACU immediately.
  • Provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; interpret data about the patient’s status to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide the care needed, including pediatrics, adolescent, and geriatric patients with attention to nonverbal communication, safety practices, and medication dosing for neonates/pediatrics; enlist adolescents in treatment, safety, and security practices; recognize physical limitations, psychosocial needs, age related conditions, safety and medication precautions for geriatrics.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education
    :
    Possess a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, a Graduate Diploma in Nursing, or an Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited agency such as ACEN or CCNE.
  • Experience
    :
    Minimum of two years experience within the last five years in a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) or Intensive Care Unit, or three years experience on a medical‑surgical unit.
  • Life Support Certification
    :
    Current AHA or ARC BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
  • Licensure
    :
    Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted nursing license in a state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia and must maintain a nursing license to practice in the United States.
  • Security
    :
    Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
