Overview

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is a federally qualified health center serving San Diego County. It operates over 90 sites across the county, providing a broad range of primary, behavioral, dental, vision, rehabilitation, and specialty services to more than 227,000 patients each year, most of whom are uninsured or low‑income.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and active administration of the LVN and MA programs, including curriculum, faculty, clinical education, student progression, and outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with BVNPT, BPPE, California regulations, institutional policies, and applicable approval or accreditation standards.
  • Lead program planning, evaluation, continuous improvement, and corrective action based on student and program data.
  • Develop, review, update curriculum, syllabi, instructional plans, skills checklists, and evaluation tools.
  • Recruit, orient, supervise, evaluate, and support faculty, clinical instructors, and program staff; ensure required faculty documentation is maintained.
  • Oversee student admission, retention, remediation, graduation readiness, licensure or certification preparation, and transition to employment.
  • Monitor outcomes, including completion, retention, pass rates, placement, employer satisfaction, and graduate performance.
  • Develop and maintain clinical sites, affiliation agreements, preceptor partnerships, advisory boards, and workforce partnerships.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation for BVNPT, accrediting bodies, and grant funders; lead site visit readiness, grant report submission, and compliance efforts.
  • Collaborate with leadership on program budgeting, forecasting, and allocation of instructional resources.
  • Teach or provide classroom, skills lab, simulation, or clinical supervision support as needed.
  • Represent the programs in committees, community meetings, employer partnerships, and regulatory communications.
Requirements
  • Must meet BVNPT Program Director requirements under California Code of Regulations, Title 16, Section 2529.
  • Experience managing a vocational nursing, medical assistant, or allied health program required.
  • Completion of approved coursework in administration, teaching, and curriculum development required.
  • Current, active California Registered Nurse license required.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advanced Resuscitation Training required.
  • Baccalaureate degree from an approved school required;
    Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Business degree strongly preferred, such as Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Organizational Leadership, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Travel between sites and other locations is required as an essential function of the job. Must have a car, a valid California driver’s license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended. An acceptable driving record is also required.
  • Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required based on program, clinical, regulatory, or student support needs.
  • Reasonable attendance, punctuality, and availability during scheduled on‑site office hours are expected to meet operational, instructional, student support, and regulatory obligations.
  • Minimum three years of RN experience required.
  • At least one year of teaching or clinical supervision experience in a state‑approved nursing, vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician program within the last five years; or at least three years of nursing administration or nursing education experience within the last five years.
