Adjunct Simulation Instructor

POSITION SUMMARY

The Adjunct RN Simulation Instructor oversees the day-to-day operations of the Simulation Lab, ensuring it supports program objectives and enhances student learning. This role involves managing high-, medium-, and low-fidelity simulation technology to create safe, effective, and realistic clinical learning experiences. The instructor collaborates closely with faculty to support student skill development and clinical reasoning.

This position reports directly to the Dean of Nursing and is hired by the Dean of Nursing.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain simulation and skills lab policies, procedures, and operations.
  • Schedule and monitor lab usage and equipment sign-out and tracking.
  • Coordinate daily lab operations for both students and faculty.
  • Serve as a resource for simulation and skills lab utilization, supporting both faculty and students.
  • Prepare and demonstrate skills and simulation activities in alignment with course objectives and Block Coordinators.
  • Provide support for students to master psychomotor and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design and implement strategies that promote clinical competence.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully equipped lab environment.
  • Manage room setup and breakdown for demonstrations and student practice.
  • Develop and refine realistic simulation scenarios using props, role-playing, and narrative structure.
  • Ensure simulations meet accreditation standards and support program outcomes.
  • Facilitate respectful, confidential debriefing and reflective learning experiences.
  • Analyze simulation and lab data to assess effectiveness and student satisfaction.
  • Continuously improve simulation activities based on feedback and evolving best practices.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and ensure proper storage and disposal of materials.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance, repairs, and replacements.
  • Train faculty and staff on lab procedures, equipment use, and safety protocols.
  • Support grant writing efforts and develop partnerships with community stakeholders.
  • Provide technical and IT support for simulation equipment and software.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and institutional policies.
  • Model professional behavior, including collaboration, communication, and accountability.
  • Provide remediation for students requiring additional support in skill development.
  • Collaborate with faculty to align lab activities with course and clinical objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current, active California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; MSN preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of nursing education experience within the last ten years.
  • At least one (1) year of recent direct patient care experience as an RN.
  • Proficient with simulation and lab technologies.
  • Strong computer literacy and familiarity with relevant software platforms.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse and inclusive academic environment.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and organized.
