The Dermatology Nurse Practitioner is a valued member of the care team whose primary responsibility is the management of patients within the UC San Diego Health market area. The NP works under the supervision of the physician team responsible for providing comprehensive care for patients with general dermatology needs. The NP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization and profession.

May perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.
  • National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area.
  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Minimum two (2) years of work experience as a licensed Nurse Practitioner with a Medical Dermatology setting.
  • Medical Dermatology experience, biopsies, intralesional steroid injection, phototherapy, excisions, and management of other dermatology conditions.
  • Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency, and critical care medicine, management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery, therapeutics, including pharmacology, counseling techniques, and interpersonal dynamics.
  • Skill in telephone interviewing of patients to efficiently retrieve accurate information.
  • Ability perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.
  • Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes, as well as policies, procedures and protocols for patient care management.
  • Proven knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in clinic. Must understand purpose and required supplies and/or equipment, how to perform procedure accurately, infection control, an accurate documentation of medical chart.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other health care personnel, and skill at providing clear written, verbal and telephone communication with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to assess the daily status and progress of patients and report this effectively to the physician and other medical care personnel associated with the patient.
