DescriptionCertified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) at UC San Diego provide anesthesia services across all campuses. The role requires anesthesia, airway management, and perioperative care for patients of all ages under the general direction of medical faculty. The nurse anesthetist works 7 consecutive days, from 12:00 A.M. Sunday to 11:59 P.M. Saturday, with on‑call availability and off‑shift assignments.
Responsibilities- Provide anesthesia services to patients of all ages.
- Perform pre‑anesthetic evaluation, induction, maintenance, emergence, and airway management.
- Work collaboratively with anesthesiologists and support staff as part of the Anesthesia Care Team.
- Maintain detailed medical information and prepare clear, concise reports in Epic.
- Provide patient and family counseling, including in delicate or end‑of‑life situations.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.
- Work independently or within a team framework in a diverse patient population.
- Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia program; new graduates with expected graduation before December 2026 may be considered.
- Current, non‑probationary California RN and CRNA licenses, or obtain them prior to enrolment.
- Valid NBCRNA board certification prior to enrolment.
- BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at hire with ART available within six months.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency or critical care medicine, and pharmacology.
- Ability to perform initial history and physical examination and formulate plans of action.
- Experience with pre‑anesthetic preparation, evaluation, induction, maintenance, and emergence.
- Experience providing anesthesia services and airway management for all ages.
- Expertise in rendering anesthesia care for trauma, diagnostic, therapeutic, or surgical procedures.
- Excellent writing skills for medical reports, lab data, progress notes, policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to write accurate orders for inpatient or outpatient plans.
- Compassionate counselling of patients and families, including in death‑and‑dying situations.
- Excellent communication skills with a diverse population.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.
- Two (2) years of recent licensed CRNA experience; minimum two years required for Senior level.
- Recent experience with complex anesthetic cases.
- Experience and proficiency with OB anesthesia care and services.
- Interest in working in an academic medical center.
- Experience in a high‑acuity, tertiary care center.
- Working knowledge of operating room standards and techniques.
- Familiarity with patient‑centered perioperative management (e.g., ERAS).
- Ability to place central and arterial lines independently as needed.
- Most shifts are 6:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; swing and night shifts on a rotating basis are required.
- Hiring pay scale for New Grad Nurse Anesthetists: $120.24 / hour; for Senior Nurse Anesthetists: $126.24–$176.81 / hour.
- Employment subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
- Must obtain and maintain UCSD medical staff privileges; credentialing application fee paid by the candidate.
- Clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years.
- Must be willing to work at all UC San Diego Health locations and at various hours, days, shifts, on‑call and locations as needed.

Annual Full Pay Range: $251,061 – $351,494 (prorated if appointment percentage < 100%).
Hourly Equivalent: $120.24 – $168.34.
