Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

Under the supervision of the attending faculty physician and clinical nurse lead or NP, the Per Diem RN responsible for providing clinical assistance and support in treating and managing the pre and post-transplant care of transplant patients. Acts as key member of the multidisciplinary transplant teams. Solves complex clinical problems and communicates directly with the attending physician. Consultant and liaison for patients and their families with attending physicians, house staff, social workers, financial and administrative staff, and community physicians.

Provides teaching to patients, staff, and community organizations. Collaborate with attending physicians on admissions, discharges and outpatient care. Works closely with administrative team to fulfill QA and regulatory requirements. Position may cross train to cover nursing positions in pre and post-transplant as well as the transplant multispecialty clinic. • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
• RN License issued by the State of California.
• BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
• Must have a minimum of three (3) years of recent (within past 3 years) face to face patient care in an acute or ambulatory setting.
• Experience caring for solid organ transplant patients on a nursing floor or outpatient unit that specializes in caring for this patient population.
• Willingness to provide coverage for planned and unplanned staffing needs.
• Availability to work variable shifts based on departmental needs.
• Ability to orient and quickly adapt to multiple transplant service lines and clinic settings.
• Ability to maintain required competencies across assigned transplant specialties.
