Position Description

Student Health Services at San Diego State University is seeking a Registered Nurse
to provide comprehensive nursing care within SDSU Student Health Services. This position provides nursing assessment, triage, treatment, patient education, care coordination, and follow-up within established protocols and the Registered Nurse scope of practice. The Registered Nurse works collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and other health care team members at SDSU to support student health and well-being.

• Provide in-person and telephone triage using established protocols and assess patients’ symptoms, medical histories, medications, allergies, vital signs, and health needs.
• Staff the Nurse Clinic and provide assessment, treatment, follow-up, and patient education for common health concerns, including but not limited to: urinary tract infections, respiratory symptoms, pregnancy testing, emergency contraception, and sexually transmitted infection screening.
• Develop and evaluate individualized nursing care plans and educate patients on treatment plans, self-care, health promotion, wellness, preventive care, and available campus or community resources.
• Respond to emergent or potentially critical situations with accuracy, efficiency, and professionalism.
• Perform clinical procedures and treatments under the direction of physicians and nurse practitioners, including medication administration, immunizations, specimen collection, testing, wound care, splinting, casting, and other nursing services.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the electronic health record while protecting patient privacy and complying with HIPAA, FERPA, and applicable laws and policies.
• Support Student Health Services operations through staff training, competency activities, committee participation, policy and procedure development, outreach events, supply management, and process improvement.

• Support the health, well-being, and academic success of SDSU students in a welcoming and student-focused health care environment.
• Provide inclusive care to students from diverse backgrounds and support a broad range of outpatient health needs.
• Work alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other health care professionals helping support a sustainable workload and reduce burnout.
• Gain valuable experience in triage, acute care, outpatient nursing, and women’s health while serving a diverse student population.

• Full-time, benefits-eligible, permanent/probationary position.
• Position is designated exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
• Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
• The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
