Metrology Technician
As a Metrology Technician you will have a hands-on role focused on coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programming and operation across a variety of engineering programs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically grounded, and comfortable working in various industries and project types.
Essential Job Functions:
- Program and operate CMM and OMM (ZEISS Calypso) to perform dimensional inspections of precision mechanical and optical components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, and technical specifications to develop CMM inspection routines and verify conformance to requirements.
- Perform part inspections and generate corresponding inspection reports, spanning supplier documentation review, drawing-based dimensional inspections.
- Perform alignment of mechanical assemblies via CMM feedback with engineer's guidance.
- Troubleshoot CMM programs, probe configurations, and measurement discrepancies; coordinate with engineering on resolution.
- Assist engineers in the testing and inspection of optical, mechanical, and electrical components and assemblies.
- Communicate inspection findings and reports to engineers in a clear and timely manner to support design and production decisions.
- Assist in maintaining organization of the cleanroom and shop floor.
- Assist with hardware builds as needed.
Location:
Position is based onsite in San Diego.
What Are We Looking For?
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent (Associate's degree in a technical field a plus)
- 2+ years of Experience operating and programming CMMs such as ZEISS Contura or ZEISS O-Inspect (or equivalent CMM platforms)
- Strong understanding of GD&T and ability to translate drawing requirements into CMM measurement routines
- Ability to stand continuously as well as bend, squat, and lift frequently
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Must be a US Person (U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ZEISS Calypso software
- Experience with optical CMM sensors or non-contact metrology (e.g., confocal/Dot Scan-type sensors)
- Laser tracker experience (FARO a plus)
- Experience building in a clean room environment, preferably lasers/optics, and related equipment
- Experience handling ESD-sensitive components
- Familiarity with CAD software such as Solid Works a plus
Compensation and Benefits:
Metrology Technician pay range: $23.00/hour - $39.00/hour
* This range represents base pay. In addition, you may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.
