Rock West Composites is seeking a Metrology Inspector to support inspection of complex hardware.

Position Summary

The Metrology Inspector is responsible for programming, operating, and maintaining Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and other metrology equipment to inspect precision components and assemblies. This role ensures products meet engineering, customer, and quality requirements through accurate inspections, technical documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Essential Functions Metrology & Inspection
  • Develop, program, and troubleshoot Verisurf inspection programs for articulated arms (Romer/FARO), laser trackers, and fixed CMMs.
  • Perform dimensional inspections of mechanical, metallic, and composite parts using CMMs and precision measuring equipment.
  • Conduct First Article (AS9102), in-process, and final inspections to verify compliance with engineering and customer requirements.
  • Utilize precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, PCM equipment, and mylars.
Programming & Documentation
  • Interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, technical specifications, and GD&T requirements to develop accurate inspection programs.
  • Generate and maintain inspection reports, AS9102 documentation, engineering change requests, and nonconformance records.
  • Support inspection documentation using DISCUS or similar quality management software.
  • Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, and Quality teams to resolve dimensional and specification issues.
  • Maintain and calibrate CMMs and metrology equipment to ensure accurate and reliable inspection results.
  • Support internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, company quality standards, safety requirements, and company policies.
Non-Essential Functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required;
    Associate degree in Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience operating advanced metrology equipment, including FARO/Romer articulated arms, laser trackers, or similar inspection systems.
  • 3+ years of experience programming and troubleshooting Verisurf CMM software in a manufacturing or quality environment.
  • Experience performing First Article (AS9102), in-process, and final inspections on precision-machined and composite components.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency operating CMMs, articulated arms, laser trackers, and standard precision measuring equipment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, blueprints, and GD&T.
  • Experience with contact and non-contact inspection methods, surface plate layouts, and AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Knowledge of composite manufacturing processes is preferred; CMM or quality certifications (ASQ, NCSL, etc.) are a plus.
  • Proficiency with Verisurf and Microsoft Office; experience with Lean manufacturing (5S, Kaizen) is preferred.
