Position: Scientist II – Antibody Development
Duration: 12 Month Contract with possible extension
Pay Rate: $38/hr - $40/hr (depending on experience)
Relocation Expenses/ Assistance: NO
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Scientist II to support research and development of monoclonal antibodies within the Antibody Technologies team. This role contributes to multiple work streams, including protein expression and purification, tissue culture and cell-line engineering, and antibody testing for flow cytometry applications.
The position requires extensive hands-on experience with protein purification, tissue culture, protein expression, and a strong understanding of biochemistry and molecular biology. The successful candidate will set up and execute experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and prepare and present data at lab meetings with guidance regarding required tasks and expected results.
Key Responsibilities
- Purify antibodies and recombinant proteins using AKTA FPLC and manual purification methods.
- Execute and document work in accordance with SOPs while adhering to strict GMP requirements under ISO 13485 standards.
- Coordinate preparation and transfer of purified antibody and protein samples to other functional teams.
- Perform analytical testing of purified antibodies and proteins using: SEC, SDS-PAGE, Western blot, MADLS, qPCR
- Perform transfection and/or expression of antibodies and recombinant proteins from various systems, including:
Mammalian cell lines (e.g., CHO, hybridomas), E. coli - Apply advanced molecular biology techniques to execute experiments of varying complexity.
- Execute experiments using multi-color flow cytometry.
- Analyze flow cytometry data using FCS Express and Flow Jo; report results and complete all required documentation and database entries per protocols and SOPs.
- Perform day-to-day problem solving and participate in cross-functional team activities to ensure operational timelines are met.
- Independently analyze research data, troubleshoot with minimal guidance, and plan follow-up experiments.
- Efficiently prioritize individual workload.
- Participate in laboratory scheduling, operational tasks, and maintenance activities.
Knowledge & Skills
- Protein purification using liquid chromatography and quality assurance through multiple analytical methods.
- Protein expression using various systems, including mammalian cells, insect cells, and bacterial systems.
- Proficiency with aseptic technique and cell culture techniques (required).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain neat, accurate, and complete records.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with assay automation and automated liquid handlers.
- Experience with cell line engineering.
- Hands-on experience with flow cytometry and flow data analysis.
- Immunology background.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2–4 years of laboratory experience.
- Required hands-on experience in:
- AKTA FPLC
- Molecular biology
- Tissue culture
- Proficiency in tissue culture techniques, including transfection for protein expression.
