Position Description

The Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego, is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body and is seeking a highly motivated Project Scientist to lead a research program at the interface of immunometabolism and obesity.

Selected Candidate Will Be Responsible For
  • Conducting research studies and experiments to investigate the role of the innate immune system in response to metabolic stress, with a focus on molecular mechanisms underlying adipose tissue inflammation, insulin resistance, and innate immunity, particularly macrophage and neutrophil biology.
  • Designing and implementing advanced in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro experimental approaches, including multi-parameter flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, transcriptional regulation, and profiling of macrophage subpopulations across different tissues.
  • Performing functional metabolic assays in primary cells and established cell lines.
  • Designing, executing, analyzing, and presenting experimental data, and contributing to the dissemination of research findings.
  • Teaching and mentoring postdoctoral fellows and students within the laboratory.

Appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate or Full Project Scientist level based on background and years of experience.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Candidates must have an MD or equivalent degree or PhD in a health-related field.
  • Candidates must have a minimum of four years of postdoctoral research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates with a proven record of research productivity and accomplishment are preferred.
  • Candidates with a demonstrated proficiency in techniques in molecular and cell biology, cell culture, animal physiology, including metabolic physiology and immunology, are also preferred.
