About the Role:

Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: NBIX) is offering the opportunity to gain research experience in the world of biotechnology. Our intern program offers exposure to medicinal chemistry research and cross-functional collaboration to bring a molecule from the lab into humans. The medicinal chemistry team has a strong reputation in the industry for CNS-based medicines. ## Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
* Synthesizing novel chemical intermediates and final compounds:  + Reviewing the chemical literature to obtain procedures, guide reaction sequences  + Setting up, monitoring by TLC and/or LCMS, and working-up reactions  + Purifying compounds by automated chromatography (ISCO combi-flash or ACCQprep) or recrystallization  + Learning about and applying medicinal chemistry and CNS-drug discovery principles to drug discovery projects
* Generating and interpreting biological data
* Helping develop plans to address medicinal chemistry goals
* Maintaining a complete laboratory notebook
* Interacting with other chemists and pharmacologists within the company
* Completing a special project and present the recommendations to management upon completion## Requirements:
* Candidate must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in one of the following areas:
Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry
* Availability from
** June 1 to August 7th
** for the 10-week internship program
* Practical experience with organic synthesis, methods development, total synthesis, or similar
* Ability to work in a laboratory environment
* Prior laboratory experience (Minimum>1 year)
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to think creatively and be a team player
* Interest in attending various program events, including social gatherings, career development workshops, and more

* Ability to commit to a 10-week, full-time summer program
