We’re seeking highly skilled and motivated Scientist I to design, lead, and execute complex in vivo pharmacology studies focused on immunology and autoimmune disease models, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)/colitis models, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and related immune-mediated disease models in immunocompetent and immunocompromised mice.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions:
- Provides overall scientific and operational support for in vivo studies.
- Contributes and applies expertise and knowledge to collaborate with partners in the design and execution of related studies.
- Works with business management and development team for sponsor engagement and project proposal preparation.
- Leads multiple ongoing projects to meet expected timelines.
- Responsible for new capability implementation and team building.
- Contributes to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental goals.
- Communicates with clients for designing, analysis, reporting and recording activities.
- Performs job specific tasks in compliance with applicable Regulations, International Standards, WuXi App Tec Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Hands‑on bench work when necessary.
- Ph.D. in Immunology, Biology, Pharmacology, or a related life science field.
- Industry experience from CRO or postdoctoral experience preferred; strong scientific knowledge, demonstrated experience in rodent handling and in vivo experimental techniques are highly desired.
- Expert level skills in the following areas are required:
- Perform advanced animal procedures including multiple dosing routes (IV, PO, IP, SC), disease induction, clinical scoring, body weight and symptom monitoring, and collection of blood and tissue samples for downstream analyses.
- Establish, optimize, validate, and troubleshoot in vivo inflammation and autoimmune disease models to support preclinical therapeutic evaluation and mechanism-of-action studies.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data with scientific rigor, generate clear conclusions, and prepare detailed study reports and data summaries for internal teams and external clients.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and study-specific supervision to Research Associates and junior team members while promoting best practices in animal handling and experimental execution.
- Communicate directly with external clients to provide study updates, discuss experimental design, troubleshoot technical issues, and present data interpretations to ensure high-quality scientific delivery.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple studies simultaneously.
- Excellent scientific writing and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative research environment.
- Prior in vitro assays (such as flow cytometry, ELISA, Western blot, qPCR, or similar biomarker analyses) and in vivo pharmacology experience are considered a strong asset.
- Ability to work in a laboratory and vivarium environment with exposure to animals, biohazards, and laboratory chemicals.
- Demonstrated time management and multi-tasking skills, ability to effectively prioritize workload and manage changes in direction.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage other scientists and associates.
- Demonstrated ability for attention to details and concern for impact.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to give and receive feedback, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently as required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Well organized and adaptable to change.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform laboratory procedures for extended periods.
