Description

This position is located at the VAMC, in the Department of Anesthesiology Research Laboratory. Under supervision, the incumbent will assist with experiments and data analysis, perform basic laboratory operations, and organize and clean the lab as directed. Responsibilities include routine laboratory maintenance, applying safety requirements, preparing standardized solutions for experimentation, processing standard biochemical assays, maintaining and genotyping animal colonies, setting up rodents for experiments, and performing other related functions as required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduation or General Education Diploma plus two years of laboratory experience, or two years of college including courses in Biology, Anatomy or Physiology and one year of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical scientific knowledge and skills at the college lower division level, or equivalent knowledge through experience.
  • Familiarity with scientific supplies and equipment, practical knowledge of wrapping instruments for sterilization, and operation of steam autoclaves.
  • Ability to follow basic research protocols and follow instructions closely.
  • Familiarity with calibration and maintenance of test equipment used in animal studies.
  • Basic mathematical computations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, percentages).
  • Proficiency with computers and software, including MS Office and statistical software.
  • Understanding of laboratory safety and ability to work carefully with potentially harmful agents.
  • Strong communication skills with colleagues and superiors.
  • Knowledge of cleaning laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to create spreadsheets to track and monitor laboratory supplies.
  • Organized and able to perform in an organized manner during periods of data collection.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $54,768 - $64,582 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $26.23 - $30.93. Factors include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
