Engineering Technician 3
Job Description
The Engineering Technician 3 supports the development and characterization of next-generation sensor technologies in a research and development environment. This role works closely with scientists, engineers, and technicians to build, inspect, test, and characterize prototype devices, with a strong focus on electrochemistry sensor testing. The position involves hands-on bench-top experimentation, equipment operation and maintenance, data collection and documentation, and day-to-day laboratory support, offering broad exposure to cutting-edge product development and both current and future technology platforms.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct bench-top experiments to support the development and characterization of next-generation sensor technologies, with an emphasis on electrochemical testing.
+ Build, inspect, test, and characterize prototype devices in collaboration with scientists, engineers, and technicians.
+ Collect, analyze, and accurately document experimental data and results using established procedures and data entry tools.
+ Support engineering builds and prototype development activities, including assembly, inspection, and functional testing of components and systems.
+ Operate laboratory instrumentation and testing equipment used for electrochemical characterization and sensor evaluation.
+ Troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory and related equipment to ensure reliable operation and minimal downtime.
+ Maintain laboratory inventory, including tracking consumables, chemicals, and components, and support ordering or restocking as needed.
+ Assist with daily laboratory operations, including equipment setup, calibration, and general organization of work spaces.
+ Handle chemicals and laboratory materials safely and in accordance with established safety protocols and procedures.
+ Use Excel and other software tools to enter, organize, and report data, ensuring records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
+ Collaborate effectively within a cross-functional engineering team, communicating status, issues, and results clearly and professionally.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory processes, documentation practices, and equipment utilization to support efficient R&D activities.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum 4-6 years of technical experience in research and development, engineering support, laboratory, manufacturing, or related technical environments.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
+ Experience conducting electrochemical characterization, including collecting data and documenting experimental results.
+ Experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining laboratory or manufacturing equipment.
+ Comfort and proficiency supporting engineering builds, inspections, testing, and prototype development activities.
+ Experience working with laboratory instrumentation and testing equipment.
+ Ability to maintain accurate documentation and experimental records with strong attention to detail.
+ Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a laboratory setting.
+ Ability to safely work with chemicals, prototype automation, and development laboratory equipment.
+ Proficiency using Excel and other data entry or reporting software tools.
+ Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a cross-functional engineering team.

Skills & Qualifications
+
Experience with in medical device manufacturing is preferred.
+ Electrochemical characterization experience is strongly preferred.
+ Background in R&D environments focused on sensor technologies or similar products is beneficial.
+ Experience handling chemicals and working in regulated or safety-focused laboratory environments is advantageous.
+ Interest in contributing to life-changing medical technology and products that impact patients worldwide.
+ Motivation to expand technical laboratory and engineering skills in a collaborative research and development setting.
Work Environment
This role is based in an R&D laboratory environment focused on electrochemistry sensor testing and next-generation sensor development. You will work as part of a cross-functional team consisting of scientists, engineers, and technicians, engaging in hands-on testing, characterization, and prototype development. Daily work includes a combination of laboratory experimentation, equipment operation, data collection, and thorough documentation. The schedule follows standard daytime hours, Monday through Friday, typically 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some flexibility of about an hour for start time.
