Join an innovative biotechnology company developing cutting-edge diagnostic technologies for neurodegenerative diseases. We are seeking a motivated Part-Time Research Associate to support protein production and manufacturing activities within a fast-paced laboratory environment.
This hands-on role is ideal for candidates with experience in protein purification, biochemistry laboratory techniques, and chromatography systems who are eager to contribute to meaningful scientific advancements. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting protein manufacturing operations through precise execution of laboratory procedures, accurate documentation, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
Schedule:
anywhere from 10-30 hours per week
- Perform laboratory activities supporting protein expression, purification, and manufacturing operations.
- Execute protein purification workflows utilizing chromatography-based techniques.
- Prepare buffers, reagents, and laboratory solutions according to established protocols.
- Operate and maintain chromatography systems, including AKTA/FPLC platforms.
- Conduct routine biochemical analyses including SDS-PAGE, protein concentration measurements, and related analytical assays.
- Support downstream processing and manufacturing activities for protein production.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of experiments, procedures, and results.
- Adhere to laboratory SOPs, quality standards, and regulated laboratory practices.
- Assist with laboratory organization, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and general lab readiness.
- Collaborate with scientists and team members to troubleshoot routine laboratory challenges and ensure efficient workflow execution.
- Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or a related life sciences discipline.
- Hands-on laboratory experience gained through industry, academic research, internships, or undergraduate laboratory work.
- Experience with protein purification and protein isolation workflows.
- Working knowledge of chromatography-based purification techniques.
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- FPLC/AKTA systems
- Affinity chromatography
- Ion exchange chromatography
- Size exclusion chromatography (SEC)
- Proficiency with standard biochemistry techniques including:
- Buffer and reagent preparation
- SDS-PAGE
- Protein quantification assays
- Strong laboratory documentation and recordkeeping skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to follow detailed protocols.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Industry experience in protein purification or biomanufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or regulated laboratory operations.
- Experience with Western blotting and protein characterization techniques.
- Exposure to fermentation, bioreactor, or manufacturing support activities.
- Experience operating AKTA or similar chromatography systems.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a commitment to producing high-quality scientific work.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
- Ability to execute procedures consistently and accurately.
- Highly organized with excellent documentation practices.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Enthusiasm for contributing to innovative biotechnology and diagnostic development programs.
This is a part-time laboratory-based position (20-30 hours/week) within a biotechnology organization focused on advancing diagnostic solutions for neurodegenerative diseases. The role involves routine use of chromatography systems, protein purification equipment, and standard biochemistry laboratory instrumentation in a collaborative, quality-driven environment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00/hr.
