Position: ARCHEOLOGICAL PROJECT LEADER (SEASONAL)

Archeological Project Leader - Seasonal

The reporting location for this position is the Southern Service Center in San Diego, CA. This position will work under the close supervision of the Senior State Archeologist.

Duties of the position include planning, directing, and coordinating archeological projects to include archaeological excavation, site survey and recordation, construction monitoring, preparation of site record forms, processing excavated collections, cataloging artifacts, assistance in map production using GIS equipment and Arc Map (some training is available), report writing, and other related tasks. Applicants should have archaeological work experience.

The following skills and abilities are desirable:

Working knowledge of standard professional archaeological fields and laboratory methods for both prehistoric and historic-period sites. Experience with various computer applications, in particular word processing and database programs. Experience in completing standard site recordation forms. Ability to identify sites and artifacts and evaluate various archaeological site types. Ability to work in primitive, outdoor conditions. The personality to work amicably with one's co-workers.

Some background in the use of GPS equipment for site recordation work, or the ability to learn new technology rapidly is also useful. Southern California archaeological work experience is desirable.

A college degree with an Anthropology/Archaeology major is required.

Applicants must be available to work in the San Diego office daily.

This is a non-testing classification, therefore anyone meeting the minimum qualifications listed on the classification specification may apply for this position. Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth, or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. This position may work up to 1500 hours per calendar year.
