The Department of Medicine and the Division of Medical Oncology at the University of California, San Diego are committed to academic excellence among faculty, staff, and students and seek applicants for Project Scientist position(s) in Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology.

The Division of Medical Oncology is recognized for excellence in basic, translational, and clinical cancer research. Research programs within the Division emphasize translational science, precision oncology, immunotherapy, molecular therapeutics, biomarker discovery, and investigator-initiated clinical research.

Project Scientists are academic researchers who are expected to make significant and creative contributions to collaborative research programs under the direction of a Principal Investigator. The selected candidate(s) will join a multidisciplinary team of investigators dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies, including colorectal, pancreatic, hepatobiliary, gastric, esophageal, and other GI cancers.

The selected candidate(s) will contribute scientific expertise to laboratory, translational, computational, and/or clinical research focused on gastrointestinal cancers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and conducting research studies.
  • Developing and implementing experimental protocols.
  • Analyzing and interpreting scientific data.
  • Preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Assisting with the preparation of grant applications and progress reports.
  • Presenting research findings at scientific meetings.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary research teams across the Division of Medical Oncology, Moores Cancer Center, and UC San Diego.
  • Providing training, teaching, and mentoring to students and colleagues on laboratory techniques.

Appointments will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Project Scientist level based on background and years of experience.

Candidates must have a doctoral-level degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) in a biomedical, health-related, or closely related field relevant to gastrointestinal cancer research, including Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacology, Epidemiology, Public Health, or other related fields.
