Job Description and Duties
ARCHEOLOGICAL PROJECT LEADER (SEASONAL) - SAN DIEGO COAST DISTRICT / DISTRICT OFFICE
"Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub.
If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program)."
The reporting location for this position is at 4477 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92110, San Diego Coast District Office. This position will work under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor).
Work may include, site survey and recordation, monitoring wildfire vegetation management and other natural resource projects, construction monitoring, preparation of site record forms, processing collections, cataloging artifacts, archaeological excavation, assistance in map production using GIS equipment and Arc Map, report writing, and other related tasks.
Applicants must be available to work in the San Diego Coast District office daily. This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation 265.1. This position is designated as not telework eligible.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
This position requires a valid Class C driver's license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver's license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver's license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

Working Conditions
Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as high temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant orders, and/or loud noises. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
Outdoor work is common.
Typical work activities involve frequent and prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Requires moderate physical work; hiking in steep and unstable terrain, carrying equipment, operation of hand tools, moderate lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 20 pounds. Occasional uses hand and power tools applicable to position and necessary to the task.
Talking, seeing, and hearing are essential to performing the job requirements.
Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions.
Requires occasional use of safety equipment such as - snake guards, hard hats, safety glasses, safety boots, gloves, ear protection, and respirator.
