Position description

The University of California San Diego, Department of Ophthalmology, seeks to recruit project scientist(s) who wish to join an established team of vision scientists using artificial intelligence to detect ophthalmologic diseases and pursue grant funding. The role provides opportunities to use extensive databases of clinical and demographic data and retinal imaging for AI applications in ophthalmology.

Selected candidates will be responsible for performing studies, providing onsite teaching and mentoring of students and staff, drafting manuscripts, preparing presentations, presenting at conferences, and participating in grant writing.

Appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Project Scientist level based on candidate background and experience.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD in Ophthalmology or other health‑related fields.

Preferred qualifications

Candidates with experience using AI in ophthalmic research related to glaucoma detection, progression, OCTA, fundus, and retinal OCT are preferred.
