Position OverviewSeeking professional and dependable Security Guards to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) San Diego Healthcare System. Security Guards provide a visible security presence, assist patients, visitors, and staff, maintain a safe environment, and support facility operations at VA medical and outpatient clinic locations throughout San Diego County.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and patrol assigned areas to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Control access to VA facilities and verify authorized entry.
- Observe, identify, and report suspicious activity, security concerns, and safety hazards.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, disturbances, and incidents.
- Prepare incident reports, daily activity logs, and other required documentation.
- Assist VA staff, patients, and visitors with directions and general customer service needs.
- Support emergency response activities and facility evacuation procedures when required.
- Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas and report maintenance or safety deficiencies.
- Assist VA Police and local law enforcement personnel when directed.
- Maintain professional appearance, conduct, and communication at all times.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Ability to successfully pass a background investigation.
- No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, patrol, and remain alert for extended periods.
- Ability to prepare clear and accurate written reports.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Prior security, military, law enforcement, corrections, or public safety experience.
- Experience working in healthcare, government, or public-facing environments.
- Knowledge of incident reporting and access control procedures.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors as required.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when necessary.
