DESCRIPTIONUnder general supervision, provides protective services for assigned locations, patients, visitors, and staff. Adheres to UC San Diego Health and departmental quality service standards. Patrols the UC San Diego Student Health and Well-Being Triton Building-B campus on foot to protect life and property. Professionally manages disruptive individuals using the minimum amount of force necessary, controls access to restricted and security-sensitive areas, responds to fire and security alarm activations, assumes scene command during emergency incidents, identifies and reports safety hazards, and provides direction and assistance to UC San Diego Health patients, visitors, staff, and other building occupants.
Performs other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the position as assigned.
- California Guard Registration.
- Must hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/ procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
- Two (2) years of security or security related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- BART and IAHSS certified within six (6) months of hire date.
- Skills, knowledge, and ability essential to successfully perform the duties assigned to the position.
- Ability to adhere to dress code at all times.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- One (1+) or more years of experience in hospital security.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
- Must be willing to work various hours, weekends and holidays.
- This position may be subject to interchangeable locations between UC San Diego La Jolla Medical and Student Health and Well-Being Campuses (Triton Building‑B) based on business needs.
Annual Full Pay Range: $50,446 - $62,744 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $24.16 - $30.05
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
EMPLOYER REQUIREMENTSIf employed by the University of California, you will be required to comply with our Policy on Vaccination Programs, which may be amended or revised from time to time. Federal, state, or local public health directives may impose additional requirements.
If applicable, life‑support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands‑on practice and in‑person skills assessment; online‑only certification is not acceptable.
