Job Description And Duties
Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.
This advertisement is for a Correctional Officer position. Located at Camp Puerta La Cruz in San Diego County.
* Limited term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
You must be a Peace Officer with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation

The designated capacity of the camp is for 105 minimum-custody female convicted felons. Representing five 14-person fire crews. The remaining inmates serve as cooks, clerks, landscapers, porters, camp maintenance workers and skilled shop workers. Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Camp Commander/Correctional Sergeant, all peace officers have the responsibility to take appropriate action during an emergency (including physical restraint) and to work assignments as necessary.
Each officer will be assigned a special assignment on a rotation basis, between all shifts. General duties include counts, recognition counts, standing counts, temporary release of inmate, and transfer of inmate custody, camp register, and supervision of assigned inmates, visiting, vendors and outside guest. Custodial security includes walk around the camp, conduct searches for contraband and check vehicles in camp.
Be suspicious of inmates from an “OUT OF BOUNDS” area. Check the kitchen for security; be aware of possible drops of other unauthorized activities near the camp. Be alert for suspicious vehicles. Check refrigerators and water heaters for fire malfunctions. Spend available time in the vicinity of the inmate population. Complete three (3) locker/bed area searches each shift. Check visitors in and search all items brought into the visit.
Monitor the visiting grounds for appropriate behavior and compliance with camp visiting regulations.
This position is located in San Diego County at a Correctional Camp setting, you will be required to respond on fire assignment, which could take you away from home for an extended period, and may require you to sleep outdoors. ONLY PERMANENT FULL TIME CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS AND WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS POSITION.
