Utilities Plumber – Filing Deadline:

- Under the supervision of the Plumbing Superintendent, the Utilities Plumber performs the full range of skilled journey-level plumbing work on campus utility systems.
- Respond to trouble calls related to utility systems, including but not limited to natural gas, potable water, high temp hot water, chilled water, reclaimed water, sewer, storm drains, fire protection services, and seawater.
- Inspect campus utility systems, buildings, facilities, plumbing systems, and components to ascertain required repairs through proper troubleshooting techniques, and use of various test equipment and schematics.
- Coordinate services with campus customers and assist with questions regarding work performed.
- Provide expeditious, professional, and courteous customer service.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivation, adaptability, tactfulness and decisiveness.
- Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate safety equipment.
- Ability to test, troubleshoot, adjust, and align equipment machinery and utility plumbing components.
- Required to possess a California Drivers License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required to maintain and operate and/or have access to transportation to travel to various campus locations.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces and physically able to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Ability to set priorities and work loads with minimal supervision, and plan work effectively in the field with customers and without direct supervision.
- Ability to document utility plumbing system changes and/or new installations through written information and/or prints.
- Ability to test and troubleshoot utility plumbing systems and correct problems when necessary.
- Proven journey level skills and experience performing modifications, repairs, installations and alterations to utility plumbing systems and components.
- Proficiency in the use of hand tools, silver brazing, welding and soft soldering methods, and other tools of the trade.
- Experience planning, scheduling and ordering materials for all types of plumbing jobs.
- Ability to operate all sewer and storm drain cleaning equipment.
- Skill in reading, interpreting and understanding blue prints, diagrams and other technical information to perform needed installations, modifications and repairs.
- Required to possess and maintain California Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification, training can be provided but must be completed within 6 months of hire.
- Basic experience using standard computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, computerized maintenance management (work order) systems, such as Maximo, electronic mail, and web-based applications.
- Ability to model and advocate UCSD Principles of Community.

- Required to work overtime or alternate shift as operationally necessary.
- Required to hold a California driver’s license, have a driving record in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
- Must be able to operate a vehicle and/or have access to transportation to travel to various campus locations.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces and be physically able to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Pre-employment DMV and Background Check required.
- Required to possess and maintain California Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification; training can be provided, but must be completed within 6 months of hire.
Annual Full Pay Range: $105,841 - $105,841 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $50.69 - $50.69
