Building Operations is a large division within the Facilities Management (FM) Department. Building Operations provides the campus community, including two medical centers and other off‑site locations with the best, most optimal working and learning environment through well maintained buildings and uninterrupted utilities. The annual budget for FM's Building Operations is $20 million with $40 million for utility expenses.
POSITION OVERVIEWUnder the supervision of the Building Operations Superintendent, serves as work leader for the Paint Shop team. Works independently or with a crew. Inspects work areas, analyzes and determines required materials, and prepares the area including but not limited to securing and removing fixtures. Performs journey level painting procedures using brush, roller, conventional and airless paint spraying equipment in connection with the maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, and equipment following EPA codes and regulations.
Repairs stucco, lath and plaster, drywall, wooden surfaces. Provides trade assistance to others within the division.

- Strong demonstrated ability to read color chart, finish schedules, and interpret drawings and sketches.
- Experience working with different types of cements such as plastic or common.

- Ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of people. Ability to work well in a team or alone.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working within related safety regulations and practices. Knowledge and ability to work in a safe manner according to local, federal, state and university requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to frequently changing priorities and work assignments. Skills to organize and prioritize work.
- Knowledge of and experience working with construction materials used in painting trade. Experience determining repair needs.
- Knowledge and experience in the installation and preparation of drywall and plaster surfaces.
- Experience preparing surfaces to be painted such as sanding, scraping, wire brushing, and stripping with a stripping compound.
- Thorough knowledge of and experience using all power (including power saw, power sander, airless spray gun) and hand tools used in performance of assigned tasks, including cleaning and care.
- Skills to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Experience using standard computer systems and applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), electronic mail and web based applications.
- Demonstrates competency, commitment, and ability to model and advocate UCSD Principles of Community.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively direct assigned personnel to work individually or in teams. Ability to establish, lead, and maintain positive and cooperative working relations with people of many diverse backgrounds.

- Required to hold a valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program. DMV check and clearance required prior to hire.
