Marine Electrician (Repair) - San Diego, CA - Career Opportunity Job Description
- Join our dynamic team as a Marine Electrician, where you will install, repair, and hook up equipment for all electrical services on ships. You will be responsible for laying out, pulling, lifting out, and installing cable and conduit. This role involves preparing work areas, drilling holes, grinding metal surfaces, and welding mounting equipment. Testing electrical equipment and performing other essential tasks are part of the job.
- Prepare work areas by drilling holes and grinding metal surfaces.
- Install welds and hook up electrical equipment.
- Layout, pull, rip out, repair, and install cable and conduit.
- Test electrical equipment for functionality and safety.
- Read and interpret composite blueprints, computer printouts, and Navy standards manuals.
- Remove scrap materials and perform general clean‑up tasks.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and shipbuilding practices.
- Ability to use power and hand tools effectively.
- Proficiency in reading composite blueprints, computer printouts, and Navy standards manuals.
- Two years of marine electrical experience or four years of general electrical experience.
- Capability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Ability to access and move around the ship safely.
Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to work 1st and 2nd shifts (6:30 AM - 3:00 PM and/or 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM).
- Comprehension of written and verbal instructions and ability to hear warning signals.

Work EnvironmentWork is primarily in NASSCO's repair division, with locations varying between NBSD, NASNI Coronado, and active Navy ships within the NASSCO yard. Working conditions require DBIDS compliance and include the use of measuring equipment, hammers, drills, grinders, welding equipment, hand tools, and electrical test equipment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
