Low Voltage Lead Technician
Reports To:
Lead Communications Technician.
The Low Voltage Lead Technician leads a team of installers, ensuring the installation and maintenance of communication networks meet company safety and quality standards. Responsibilities include coordinating crew activities, delivering training, and completing all necessary project documentation.
Responsibilities- Install work area outlets and terminate CAT3 & CAT5 jacks, mounting face plates and surface‑mount boxes in accordance with IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards.
- Build closets by installing backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber‑optic and related hardware.
- Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
- Complete IDC connections, including termination of 110/66 blocks and patch panels.
- Perform testing: continuity tests on horizontal and riser cable, volt‑ohmmeter tests, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs, and use tone sets.
- Identify active voice or data circuits.
- Lead crew activities, provide training, coordinate personnel and timelines to complete projects efficiently.
- Maintain accurate IES COMMERCIAL paperwork: timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, and other required documentation.
- Adhere to and enforce all company, customer, and industry safety and quality standards and regulations.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field, including supervisory experience.
- Proficiency with tools such as screwdrivers, drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, punch tool, tone set, and crimp tool.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
- Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
- Minimum driving standards met.
- Physical capability to lift up to 75 lbs, work at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces.
- Strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills, with the ability to read, write, and give oral presentations.
- Positive, self‑motivated attitude and professionalism; promotes company culture and mission to all stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel within the branch and/or regional territory as required.
