HVAC Subject Matter Expert (SME)
Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! The COMNAVAIRPAC Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT) is looking for an experienced HVAC Subject Matter Expert (SME). The experienced technician will perform shipboard equipment assessments and repairs while training Ships Force personnel and validating installed systems to ensure accurate documentation. This is a full-time position located in San Diego, CA.
What You Will Do:
- Considered subject matter expert in technical specialty.
- May work directly with customer or customer representatives, attend meetings and deploy for special projects.
- Conduct material condition assessments, troubleshooting and repairs on various equipment throughout the ship.
- Train Ships Force on proper assessment techniques.
- Train Ships Force on using technical documentation such as drawings and technical manuals.
- Validate equipment installed on CVNs to verify APL accuracy.
What You Must Have:
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise.
- Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
- Proven expertise assessing, troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systems, chilled water plants, air conditioning systems, hydraulic equipment, pumps, turbines, and auxiliary machinery.
- Experience developing and executing Quality Management Plans (QMPs).
- Experience identifying project risks and developing mitigation strategies to prevent schedule impacts.
- Experience with planning work for major maintenance availabilities (i.e. SRA's, DPIA, PIA and CMAV's) equipment overhauls, modernization projects, and lifecycle sustainment efforts.
- A current EPA Universal Certification.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
- Experience with shipboard WAF and tagout processes.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals and other technical documentation for job completion.
- Strong computer skills with MS Office applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to obtain and maintan a US Passport. May require underway support for short periods of time.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a passport and a CAC or DBIDS for base.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain ship access.
Bonus Points For:
- Prior US Navy Active-Duty experience.
- A minimum of one tour onboard a CVN.
- NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector an added plus.
- Knowledge of the US Navy Supply system.
Physical Requirements Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards,under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
