Crane Operator

Duties

  • You will use load charts to determine crane's lifting capacity in relation to the position of the boom and to compensate for variations in a crane's lifting capacity.
  • You will complete operator's daily checklist to document pre and post crane inspections.
  • You will work from hand, radio and other approved types of signals to position items where there is restricted maneuverability.
  • You will operate multiple types of hydraulic boom cranes to load, unload, move and position heavy material and equipment.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class A/B.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • This position requires successful completion of all required Navy Crane Center (NCC) courses.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You may be required to obtain certification for moving/loading ammunition.
  • You must obtain necessary authorization(s), certifications, and/or licenses to operate assigned crane(s) and any other construction equipment to which assigned.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including: (1) Working under close supervision, operating mobile, boom, truck mounted cranes to lift and move loads where maneuverability is not a factor; (2) Executing simple lifts and maneuvers in accordance with commercially accepted safe rigging practices;

(3) Performing operator inspection of cranes; and (4) Being familiar with-standard hand signals for crane operation.
