Position Title:

Landscape Maintenance Supervisor

The candidate selected for this position will be expected to work in person at the
Otay Mesa facility.

Duration: 6 months with potential for conversion based on performance

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday and alternating Saturdays, On-Site, 5/40 or 9/80 schedule

The Landscape Maintenance Supervisor will supervise, plan, coordinate, and perform functional, technical, and administrative duties related to landscape and irrigation system maintenance for the toll road and Operations Center, including developing and maintaining the master landscaping plan and coordinating improvement projects.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform and coordinate supervisory, technical, and administrative duties for landscape and irrigation system maintenance projects, activities, and tasks.
  • Participate in the selection of personnel; assign and review the work of technical staff; establish employee performance expectations and evaluate performance; provide or coordinate employee training; work with employees to improve job-related skills and competencies; implement discipline and performance improvement plans if necessary.
  • Assist in the development and administration of assigned project budgets as part of the annual SANDAG Program Budget; assist with fiscal forecasting, budget monitoring, and expenditure controls.
  • Support the development of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), including scopes of work, budgets, and vendor/contractor selection; administer contracts; review the work of vendors/contractors; ensure goods are received and services are completed on schedule, within the approved budget, and at a high level of quality.
  • Plan, coordinate, supervise, and perform landscape maintenance, erosion control, and slope stabilization activities, including weed control, fertilization, soil preparation, and plant/tree/shrub/grass care for plant-established areas.
  • Diagnose diseases and pests affecting the landscape, and develop and implement treatment plans; select appropriate replacement plants when necessary.
  • Prepare and update the master landscape plan; design and implement landscape improvement projects, giving consideration to aesthetic concerns and to safety and scenic enhancement of the roadside and grounds around the Operations Center.
  • Prepare and update irrigation system and drainage plans; monitor and maintain the irrigation, both physically and remotely.
  • Provide safety training to employees related to workplace/job safety, health, and environmental standards and procedures; review and update standard operating procedures.
  • Operate and perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on a variety of vehicles, hand and power tools, and equipment used in the work. Perform periodic inspections of equipment, tools, and work methods to ensure compliance with all related requirements.
  • Coordinate general maintenance and repair activities such as pavement repair and sealing, removing debris and graffiti, painting, carpentry, and electrical repair.

  • Experience:

    Seven years of increasingly responsible landscape or irrigation system maintenance experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
  • Education:

    Equivalent to a high school diploma supplemented by specialized training or college-level coursework in landscape maintenance or a related field.
  • License or Certification:
    Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.
