Job Summary We are seeking a dependable and motivated Fire Sprinkler Fitter Apprentice to join our Fire Sprinkler Department. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals who are interested in learning the fire sprinkler trade and building a long-term career in the fire protection industry.
The Fire Sprinkler Fitter Apprentice will support journeymen, foremen, and other members of the installation team with the installation of residential and commercial fire sprinkler systems. Apprentices will work with both residential plastic piping systems and commercial steel piping systems, with assignments varying based on company and project needs.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliable attendance, willingness to learn, attention to safety, and the ability to follow directions. Apprentices are encouraged to participate in all available training programs offered by Symons Fire Protection and approved external training providers.
Core Responsibilities
1. Fire Sprinkler Installation Assist journeymen and foremen with the installation of residential and commercial fire sprinkler systems.
Learn proper installation methods, tools, materials, and procedures used in the fire sprinkler trade.
Assist with handling, positioning, assembling, and installing fire sprinkler piping and related components.
Follow verbal, written, and diagram-based instructions from supervisors and experienced team members.
Perform assigned tasks efficiently while maintaining company quality and safety standards.
2. Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies and required safety procedures while working on job sites.
Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and high-visibility vests.
Maintain awareness of surroundings and potential job-site hazards.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Follow applicable OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and company safety requirements.
3. Material & Tool Handling Safely carry, move, stage, and organize tools, piping, fittings, and other materials.
Handle tools and materials weighing up to 70 lbs. as part of regular job duties.
Assist with loading, unloading, and moving materials throughout the job site.
Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and report damaged or missing equipment.
4. Documentation & Communication Maintain accurate documentation related to work performed.
Communicate effectively with foremen, journeymen, supervisors, and other team members.
Report job-site issues, safety concerns, damaged materials, or equipment problems to the appropriate supervisor.
Use company communication and technology tools as required.
