Family Support Technician

Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Family Support Technician will be responsible for helping meet the Head Start Performance Standards of the ERSEA, Health, Nutrition, Family and Community Partnerships, Disabilities, Mental Health and Parent Involvement areas.

Essential Functions Include:

• Recruit eligible families for enrollment, including children with disabilities, for participation in Head Start and Early Head Start, in compliance with the required monthly quota for applications.
• Maintain accurate, current and follow-up documentation on recruitment, enrollment, referrals, health and social services and other information related to the children and families.
• Coordinate statistics with the Site Supervisor to ensure accurate completion of the monthly reports.
• Work cooperatively with the Site Supervisor and all other staff to coordinate center responsibilities. Assisting in the classroom, kitchen or outdoors as needed.
• Interview parents/guardians regarding their present needs. Set realistic goals with the families to be achieved during the enrollment year and follow up with families as required.
• Conduct required home visits and as needed.
• Record all field activities by signing in and signing out on the required forms.
• Develop and retain a working knowledge of community health and social service resources, including services to children with disabilities, and assist families to utilize these resources.
• Coordinate with the Family and Community Partnership Manager in the delivery of emergency and other assistance to families.
• Accurately assess children's immunization records to determine if immunizations are current and assist parents to update immunizations as necessary.
• Track health and dental screenings and follow-up treatment, and administer hearing and/or vision screenings as necessary. Assess nutrition needs and do bi-yearly required heights and weights.
• Secure from parent/guardian necessary forms required by the Head Start program.
• Attend staff and community meetings and trainings as assigned.
• Promote parent involvement at all levels of the program and attend parent meetings and help facilitate parent involvement activities.
• Attend not less than 15 hours of professional development per year.

Education & Experience:

Education:

Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent AND Twelve (12) college units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.

Experience:

Minimum of Two (2) years' paid experience, which demonstrates working effectively with diverse clientele, maintaining confidential records and providing accurate and timely reports. Experience in a preschool classroom, and/ or social service setting preferred.

Language:
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Other/Special: 18 years or older. Excellent oral and written skills. Ability to pass a physical examination and tuberculin skin test. Meet the State of California immunization requirement for employees of day care centers, immunization proof against influenza, pertussis and measles. Fingerprint clearance and criminal record check required. Ability to conduct numerous visits to clientele's homes at various locations in San Diego's South County Area.

Verification of current driver's license and insurance required for personal car usage. State of California Child Development Permit preferred. Lifting Requirement:
Up to 25 pounds
