Software Engineer
Our client, a global leader in electronics, is hiring for a Sr. Unreal Software Engineer. This is a hybrid position with 3 days onsite per week in North San Diego.

They re looking for an Animation Programmer who does more than just check off boxes in a JIRA ticket; they re looking for someone who is excited to disrupt existing markets, identify new opportunities and contribute game-changing ideas.

, you re looking to take your career to the next level and build your breadth of skills in new and emerging technologies. In this role, you will help implement new features and improve the UI/UX for an exciting initiative for our UE plugin. You will assist with prototypes and POCs, as well as shape the future of products for new and emerging markets.
This project is centered around previsualization and production for character animation, and not game development.
Contract Duration: 12 Months to Start
Responsibilities:
- Extend and customize Unreal functionalities; integrate APIs and author clean, reusable code, as well as debug, optimize and maintain existing code for our UE plugin
- Assist in driving architecture and design to improve workflows and UI/UX with animators in mind; design using flowcharts, diagrams and other planning methods, channeling the voice of the customer
- Consult with managerial, product and QA personnel to identify intent, issues, risks and suggest changes
- Brainstorm, design and develop ideas using design thinking methodology; work with 3D artists, developers and stakeholders to ideate and conceptualize
- Own technical implementation guides and documentation
- Work independently as well as coordinate with others as part of an agile scrum team
- Keep up to date with emerging technologies and trends in Generative AI, Virtual Production, and animation tools & technology
Required Skills:
- At least 5+ years of experience and a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or relevant experience required.
- Strong knowledge and experience programming in Unreal - Unreal Engine plugin/extension experience a must.
- Expert in C++ and proficiency in Blueprint visual scripting. Python and C#/.net highly desired.
- Must have a strong understanding of Unreal UI/UX development best practices
- Strong understanding of UE’s animation tools, including the control rig, multi-camera sequences, animating objects, and keyframing; ability to customize sequencer functionalities. Experience building animation systems highly desired.
- Proficiency in 3D coordinate systems, vector math and rotation representation in 3D space
- Strong knowledge of cinematic workflows and humanoid animation
- Experience with external SDKs and integrating APIs
- Ability to work with source control (Git)
- Comfort in dealing with ambiguity in a startup-like environment; excited and open to researching and learning new things
- Demonstrated expertise in Agile software development methodologies
- Interest and passion for new, emerging technologies
Bonus
Skills:
- Understanding of ML and/or Gen AI
- Experience and/or knowledge of video editing software
- Interest in and passion for filmmaking/storyboarding
