Java Developer

Job Description

large university is looking for a Java Developer to support and enhance several mission‑critical, custom developed Java applications that will remain in place post‑go‑live. These applications support core business and student‑facing systems, including degree audit, account claiming, and large‑scale student onboarding workflows. The ideal candidate can quickly understand existing codebases, work semi‑independently, and contribute to ongoing development and maintenance efforts. This role is custom application‑focused and is not an integrations‑heavy position, though some API consumption and light API development may be required once business logic is established.

Maintain and enhance large, custom Java applications supporting enterprise systems such as:

• Degree audit and student information systems
• Account claiming and onboarding applications (supporting ~15,000 users)
• Access provisioning workflows
• Read, understand, and modify existing Java code with minimal ramp‑up time
• Write and optimize basic SQL queries to support application functionality
• Support ongoing development of applications that will be retained long‑term after go‑live
• Consume existing APIs and develop limited APIs when business logic is already defined
• Collaborate with internal teams and integrators while focusing primarily on application‑level development
• Participate in knowledge transfer and quickly absorb domain and system knowledge

• 5 most recent years as a Java Developer
• Last project was supporting large, custom developed, critical apps
• SQL - ability to write queries
• some API development work
• strong work history with 2+ years in last roles SAP SLCM
