POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer II to join our dynamic team at a leading biomedical device company. This position will involve designing and developing software systems and tools as part of a team. Focus will be on developing embedded software to power our Merlin blood-testing product and future product versions, adhering to medical device standards for software quality.

The instrument also interfaces with a cloud-hosted platform for data management and test coordination, so experience with device-to-cloud interfaces will be valuable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

These may include but are not limited to:

  • Developing software components and participating in integration of software components

  • Developing software tools to facilitate software test and integration activities

  • Developing and executing software test protocols and generating test reports

  • Troubleshooting issues related to system functionality and performance

  • Contributing to cross-functional teams

  • Mentoring more junior engineers

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
  • Familiarity with embedded software system design and concepts

  • Experience with one or more programming languages such as C/C++/C#/Python, especially .NET

  • Experience with build systems, unit testing and general best practices in SW development

  • Proficient knowledge of networking and familiarity with Unix and Windows operating systems

  • Competent in use of requirements management and issue tracking systems like Jira/Confluence

  • Experience with low-level controllers and software interfaces to physical components like motors, robots, and sensors

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar field

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

  • Ability to author and present technical documents

  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall methodologies

  • Experience in life sciences industry and medical device development is a strong preference

  • Demonstrated ability to work productively in a team environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a primarily office-based role in San Diego, CA. On-site work is required most days because of the necessary access to physical instruments for development, testing, and troubleshooting. Instruments may be located in hardware or wet lab environments that require personal protective equipment and adherence to related protocols.
