Overview

Francis Parker School (Parker) is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1,330 students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world.” Parker has two campuses: one in Mission Hills (Lower School, Junior Kindergarten - Grade
5), and a second in Linda Vista (Middle and Upper School, Grades 6 - 12).

The primary goal of the Transportation Department is to promote safety, ensuring all students receive the safest transportation possible. School bus drivers transport students to and from school and other activities, including mornings pickups and afternoon returns to homes or designated bus stops. They also drive students on field trips, sporting events, and other activities.

Responsibilities
  • Follow procedures to ensure the safety of all students, including monitoring traffic and supervising loading and unloading of students on and off the bus; assist students as needed
  • Maintain order and safety on the school bus
  • Understand and enforce the school system’s rules regarding student conduct and report disciplinary problems to the Director of Transportation
  • Maintain a clean, mechanically sound bus at all times
  • Perform pre-trip inspections of the bus (as prescribed by law) before leaving the yard, including checks of braking systems; belts, hoses & clamps; fluid levels; lighting; suspension; seats; tires; heating & cooling systems
  • Obey all traffic laws and state and federal transit regulations
  • Map directions to extra trips
  • Evacuate students from all exits as needed (windows, doors, and roof vents)
  • Take appropriate action during a vehicle breakdown or collision (securing the bus, attending to injured students, preparing accident reports, etc.)
  • Communicate with parents in a friendly and professional manner
  • Maintain a given route schedule and keep the bus clean
  • Maintain proper fuel levels
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED strongly preferred
  • California Driver’s License required
  • Commercial (Class

    B) Driver’s License with School Bus Certification and Passenger Endorsement
  • Minimum one-year experience driving a school bus strongly preferred
  • No at-fault traffic accidents in the last 5 years
  • Clean driving record (no traffic citations in the last 5 years)
  • Ability to carry out an assigned route on time
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Two years experience working with children preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
In Addition
  • A school bus driver's background is checked by the Department of Justice and/or the FBI prior to receiving a license to drive a school bus
  • Current Department of Transportation Medical Certificate
  • Must pass and maintain CDL medical requirements, including vision and hearing tests
  • Maintain minimum training hours as required by law to retain School Bus Certification
  • Pass the CHP First Aid Test or hold a current First Aid Card
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol test; random testing thereafter; no driving with .01 or greater blood alcohol level
  • Attend regularly scheduled safety meetings and additional training to maintain transport safety skills
  • Maintain a clean driving record both professionally and personally
  • Maintain yearly in-service hours and/or renewal hours
Salary And Benefits

This is a Part-Time Substitute position and is not eligible for benefits. The hourly rate of pay is $32.30/hour.
