National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is looking for safety‑committed individuals to serve as Employee in Charge in San Diego, CA. This vital role ensures that work on the rights‑of‑way is conducted safely.
Job DescriptionNRSS seeks an Employee in Charge (EIC) to provide on‑track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners.
Core Responsibilities- Perform on‑track safety duties such as setting up derails, track signs, and other safety tools.
- Prepare daily field reports and report any rule violations.
- Coordinate job‑site operations and maintain communication with dispatchers and train crews.
- Conduct mandatory clear, concise, and thorough job briefings with all crew members before they enter the track.
- Enforce all railroad, state, and federal policies.
- Proficiency in tablets, smartphones, and communication tools to coordinate train movements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience with a railroad company, preferably in the maintenance‑of‑way department.
- Ability to travel for extended periods, sometimes months at a time.
- Ability to successfully complete Federal, client, and/or company‑specific training.
The position operates in a field environment on active tracks. Travel is expected from 50% to 85% of the time.
Compensation & Benefits- Salary: $25–$37 per hour based on experience.
