Senior Aviation Logistics Specialist (San Diego) Position Summary

The Senior Aviation Logistics Specialist supports the planning, coordination, and execution of military aviation training and expeditionary operations. This role integrates aviation logistics, airspace coordination, infrastructure planning, safety, and stakeholder engagement in support of Marine Expeditionary Units, Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Forces, and related aviation organizations. The position works across military commands, federal agencies, civilian airport authorities, and private-sector partners to coordinate training events, resolve operational constraints, and ensure readiness.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain exercise plans, schedules, coordination products, site surveys, briefing materials, and after-action documentation.
  • Support aviation operations planning across MAGTF, expeditionary, amphibious, maritime, and distributed environments.
  • Assist units with operational concepts, mission profiles, airfield requirements, training objectives, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with FAA, DoD, installation, and local authorities on airspace requirements, including SUA, ALTRVs, NOTAMs, TFRs, and parachute operations.
  • Maintain awareness of the National Airspace System, military training routes, air traffic procedures, and civil-military coordination requirements.
  • Coordinate aviation risk management and identify airspace, weather, safety, environmental, security, and operational risks.
  • Support deconfliction of military aviation activities with civilian air traffic and commercial airport operations.
  • Develop and coordinate logistics support for mobilization, staging, sustainment, redeployment, and retrograde operations.
  • Plan and track requirements for fuel, ground support equipment, ramp space, hangars, maintenance, transportation, communications, security, lodging, and other resources.
  • Coordinate airfield, ramp, and infrastructure support with installation personnel, airport authorities, vendors, and exercise participants.
  • Track facilities, property, equipment, cost estimates, funding inputs, and accountability actions.
  • Identify permitting, access, environmental, security, and facility constraints and elevate issues requiring formal authority.
  • Participate in planning conferences, execution meetings, synchronization sessions, and post-exercise reviews.
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with military commands, installation staff, FAA representatives, air traffic organizations, civilian airport authorities, state and local government offices, and private-sector providers.
  • Coordinate working groups, planning conferences, site visits, stakeholder engagements, and executive-level briefings.
  • Translate operational requirements into clear taskings, schedules, resource needs, and decision points.
  • Track stakeholder commitments, approvals, open actions, and interdependencies.
  • Resolve routine coordination issues and elevate matters requiring policy, command, regulatory, or contractual decisions.
  • Represent the organization professionally in meetings involving military, federal, state, local, and commercial stakeholders.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
  • Masters degree in aviation management, logistics, Military studies, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in military aviation operations, or a related field.
  • Active Secret clearance
  • Experience supporting Marine Expeditionary Units, Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Forces, amphibious operations, distributed operations, or related training environments.
  • Knowledge of the Marine Corps Planning Process, Joint Planning Process, operational planning, exercise design, and training-readiness management.
  • Working knowledge of and experience coordinating with FAA airspace structures, Special Use Airspace, altitude reservations, Notices to Air Missions, temporary flight restrictions, parachute operations, and civil-military airspace coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear written products, briefing materials, schedules, reports, and executive-level communications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel frequently to military installations, commercial airports, training areas, and other operational locations.
  • Ability to work extended, weekend, or irregular hours during exercise planning and execution periods, when required.
