Position Summary

San Diego State University, Department of Logistical Services, is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Warehouse Worker to support campus‑wide receiving, shipping, distribution, and inventory activities. This role ensures the accurate handling of materials, equipment, and mail while maintaining efficient warehouse operations and supporting university property management processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Warehouse Operations & Distribution
    • Receive, inspect, and process incoming shipments; verify deliveries against purchase orders, packing slips, and shipping documents.
    • Prepare, pack, and ship materials through common carriers, while providing pickup and delivery services across campus.
    • Operate material‑handling equipment and university vehicles to transport supplies, equipment, and mail safely and efficiently.
    • Maintain warehouse inventory, equipment records, surplus property documentation, and accurate asset tracking using barcode and identification systems.
    • Ensure a clean, organized warehouse and assist with mail distribution, surplus removal, and property management activities.

Position Information
  • This is a full‑time (1.0 time‑base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position.
  • This position is designated non‑exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary

Under the general direction and supervision of the Assistant Director, Logistical Services, Shipping and Receiving Services (SRS), and Mail Services (MS) are jointly responsible for the receipt of all incoming material for the campus community and the delivery of such material to the appropriate campus departments. SRS & MS are responsible for the receipt, packing, and shipment of all outgoing material as well.

The departments provide documentation and verification of all material to ensure it is in accordance with the purchase orders. Responsibilities also include the receipt and tagging of University equipment. SRS & MS are also jointly responsible for receiving, sorting, and distributing U.S. and campus mail. It also distributes other campus‑related materials. The departments serve as the liaison between the University and the U.S. Postal Service.

Education

And Experience

One year of experience assisting in the receipt, storage, or issuance of materials from a centralized stockroom or warehouse, including some experience in the operation of forklift trucks or similar power‑operated materials handling equipment.

Prospective applicants who do not have the experience listed may be considered eligible based on other evidence of meeting the above minimum qualifications.

Key Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of methods, practices, and equipment used in receiving, storing, packing, and shipping materials and supplies. General knowledge of methods of taking inventories and maintaining inventory records.
  • Ability to match names and numbers quickly and accurately; keep simple records and make simple reports.
  • Make simple mathematical calculations; operate powered materials handling equipment.
  • Apply safe methods of moving heavy supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds with or without assistance.
  • High school diploma, technical/vocational program, or other equivalents combined with several years of related work experience preferred.
  • Forklift operation certificate preferred.
Licenses/Certifications Required
  • CA Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
Compensation
  • Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 5 ($3,747/month).
  • Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,461-$4,752 per month (Step 1-Step 17).
